Day 25 – Working My Way thru the Menu: #8 Chargrilled Chicken Club Sandwich Meal

Day 25 of Every Day with Chick-fil-A.

Today should’ve been a great day. It ended up that way with my #8 Chargrilled Chicken Club Sandwhich, but I had some rough moments, I’m not going to lie.

I started my day at 6:15 this morning by running for just the fourth time in the last 30 days. Since I typically exercise about 2-4 times a week on average, I’ve been missing my mojo, so to speak, and with all that pizza I had yesterday, you would’ve thought today’s run would’ve put me back in the grove. [Also, put me back in the groove.] I went about 4 miles and some change, and did feel pretty good. Showered, fed the dogs, and by 8:00 a.m., it was time to start the work day.

It’s funny, people think when you’re self-employed or work out of the house that you don’t have a “real job.” I mean, I have no work-home boundaries in a profession (blogging) that’s open 24 hours a day (the Internet), have multiple folks that do work for us, spend thousands of dollars a year on server space, IT help, plugin assistance, contractors, education, conferences, and generally have to figure out every technical problem on Youtube or chat rooms on my own and oh by the way, spend 12-14 hours a day working some facet of the blog, but, you know, it’s not a ‘real job.’ What does that even mean? Must Michael Scott be in my life for it to be real?

So as you can tell, I was just edgy today, and I really shouldn’t be. Liza called me out on it too, God bless her little heart. But she was right, there’s no denying it.

All that being said, I knew exactly the problem. If I don’t get up early enough to run, then running cuts out my devotional time. That’s Shoot Christians Say for “reading my bible time.” Crazy, when you take seriously the admonition to “renew your mind” daily (Romans 12:1-2), you really feel it when you don’t do it.

The good news is that I’ve recognized it, and tomorrow I don’t have be like Joe Pesci in that Snickers commercial.

Even better news was that I could make my Chick-fil-A run this evening without a lot of fanfare. I’m working my way through the menu, and today was a #8 Chargrilled Chicken Club Sandwich Meal. It might be #8 on the menu, but tonight it was #1 in my heart. Wow, delicious! After yesterday’s ostentatious display of culinary madness, this was the perfect ending to a perfect day. I went about 7:30 when Liza went for her run, so we were both occupying ourselves with two of our favorite things – Chick-fil-A and running.

Another piece of good news is that Ryan was my server tonight, and I haven’t seen him in a while. If you remember, he was super excited the first time we met back on Day 4, which you can read about HERE. Big fan of Ryan – got a bright future ahead of him.

According to Chick-fil-A’s website, the Chargrilled Chicken Club Sandwich: A boneless breast of chicken, marinated in special seasonings, grilled to perfection and served on a toasted Golden Wheat bun with dill pickle chips, Provolone cheese, smoked applewood bacon, green leaf lettuce and tomato. Served with 1 package of Honey Roasted BBQ Sauce.

Total Cost: Oh man, this is ridiculous. I intentionally kept my receipt in the bag so I could look at it when I got home. Yup, it’s not there. But I know it was like $7.50-ish for the meal. How do you like that for exactitude?

I have really loved getting to know this sandwich. Like those first few dates with the woman of your dreams, or the bright-eyed feeling of seeing a pro stadium field for the first time, or the magical sensation that overcomes you when your junker car surprisingly starts up after sitting idle for a month in Africa – that’s what the Chicken Club has been to me. Surprising. Magnanimous. Enchanting. Who knew such a delicious combo of chicken, cheese, and bacon existed in such affordable conditions? Or course no rabbit food – don’t ruin a good thing.

So despite the bad run of attitude I had in the middle of the day, it’s ended on a high note and I’m ready for tomorrow. Bring it on, life.

Final Every Day Rating: 9 out of 10.  The only reason, and I do mean the only reason this wasn’t a perfect score is that I like my chicken piping hot, and it was slightly under the preferred temp mark. But I really love the natural taste of the chicken with a provolone cheese that doesn’t overpower, and then there’s the bacon. I mean, bacon. Bacon people.  Nevermind, I give it a 10 out of 10 after thinking a little more. Love this sandwich!
