Day 43 has been a bear. A big, fat, Alaskan grizzly bear who’d rather eat Jeff than Chick-fil-A. (Although if he ate Jeff directly after Jeff ate Chick-fil-A, then in a way, he’d be eating both.)
Today has been a bear for a couple of reasons. It’s times like these when you really appreciate not having to ask anyone’s permission to speak your mind. Although, I suppose this really isn’t any different than any other occasion in my case. Nonetheless, here are the reasons why my day was Grizzly Adams:
1) Slept far longer than I anticipated, so got a late jump on the day. While my body obviously needed the sleep, I do my best work in the morning, so sleeping in past 7:00 a.m. was literally waking up on the wrong side of 7:00 a.m.
2) Migraine hangover. Anyone who’s ever had a migraine knows the next day is no fun either. It’s like it’s constantly there but not; it lies dormant, anticipating the next opportunity to beat against your skull at the slightest tilt or nod of the head. Darn you migraine hangover headache!
3) You’ve heard of Blackhawk Down? Well this week it’s been Website Down. I’m talking, E V E R Y day. Down time means loss of income time. We’re business owners, people. If we’re not live, the peeps are going elsewhere, and that’s just bad business. I’m okay with every once in a while, but we’re in a holding pattern with no end tunnel’s light in sight. Can I come up with any more cliches for this third grizzly bear reason?
4) Migraine hangover.
The irony in all this is that it should’ve been a great day. Thursday is normally a lighter work day, the Open Championship was on, and I had a Chick-fil-A engagement to which I could look forward! And there is the rub people. Momma said there’d be days like this, and God never said He’d shield us from the every day mundane, only help us get through it.
So while my day did get off to a rough start, I let it. My wife and I have to remind each other of this saying we’ve said often over years, “Hey you, choose joy.” And that’s just it. Life is a choice. By God’s grace I am as hopeful a person as you’ll find. But there are days, like today, where the little things in life can get the best of you.
Good thing I turned it around by mid-afternoon, and was rewarded with seeing my guy Colby tonight at Chick-fil-A! He was with a gal I haven’t met, and I’m like 83% sure her name is Leanne, but it might be Deanne. I’m sure Colby will let me know about it next time I see him. Of course, they were courteous and friendly as always. Love Chick-fil-A employees.
My day also turned around because I had the Grilled Nuggets.
Now I’m pretty sure I never knew that I, as an adult, could order said nuggets, but after seeing my brother-in-law do it down in Royal Palm this past weekend, I decided to live on the wild side and have some myself. First time for this guy. Of course they were delish, but let’s be honest here, in terms of taste, they’re a distant second cousin to the main attraction, the Chick-fil-A Nuggets.
Here’s the nice thing about the Grilled Nuggets:
0g Saturated Fat
0g Trans Fat
So the above numbers are for a 12-count, which is what I had – how ’bout those numbers? 220 total calories and 50 grams of protein? If you’re a weight watcher, then this is definitely a nice option.
Now, I’ll tell you the best part of my day. I got a call on the ride home from a buddy of mine, who shall remain nameless, and he gave me some awesome news. You know who you are. It’s easy to choose joy when you have good friends who give you good news.
Maybe tomorrow I can do it from moment my foot hits the ground, regardless of the day’s news.
